In winter months it’s pretty cold to go out on the water, and the wind is often not very good – in summer months it’s actually forbidden to kite on most beaches in Catalonia and you will have to find designated kitesurfing zones where it’s allowed to kitesurf. The kitesurfing conditions in and around Barcelona are usually best in spring and autumn (from March until May, and from September until November). You can find more detailed information on local wind forecasts by contacting a local kitesurf school, but there are some general guidelines that you can keep in mind. Check out the two main spots in the Delta del Ebro: Riumar and the big flat-water lagoon Trabucador. ![]() Mostly famous for paella rice and flamingos, but it’s a true windy paradise with stunning views and the best sunsets you’ll ever see. At 2,5hrs south of the Barcelona city center, you can find a true hidden gem: the Delta del Ebro. A beginner-friendly spot with a big kitesurfing scene, as well. In the north, about 1,5hrs driving away, you can find Sant Pere Pescador. If you decide to go and explore the area, you can take a car and drive a bit north or south of Barcelona. If you want to stay closer to Barcelona city center, you can find most kitesurfers on Bogatell beach or in El Masnou although please keep in mind that these spots are only for more advanced riders! Usually when the wind enters at these spots, it’s very strong and brings strong currents and big waves, so if you’re still in the beginning stages of your kitesurfing career, it’s better to just stay dry and watch the show. But you will find most people kitesurfing in one of two locations along the beach: on the north side at kitesurf club The Bunker, or on the south side at kitesurf club Mojokite. The train literally stops right in front of the beach, and outside of the summer season you can go kitesurfing anywhere you like. With its wide-stretched beach as far as the eye can see and consistent, stable winds, it’s a very popular go-to place for all kitesurfers from the Barcelona area. Only 30 minutes from the Barcelona city center by public transport or car you will find Castelldefels.
